Performances are held across the street from Ubud Palace in an open theater complex decorated to look like the interior of a palace. The program changes every night, from legong dance to kecak to barong.

Less is more with the "legong" style of dance. Eye movement, facial expression, finger fluttering, and subtle footwork are emphasized. Gamelan music is not harmonic, but it was very interesting to watch the live orchestra play traditional Balinese instruments.
Taking a closer look at the beautiful costumes of the dancers.
The dances tell the stories of the Ramayana, an ancient Sankrit epic that is very prevalent in Balinese art. I would recommend reading about it before going to shows to get the most out of the experience.
