Pura Tirta Empul is a holy spring water temple in Ubud that the local Balinese people have visited for purification rituals since 962 AD. These rituals are thought to help cleanse the soul and ward off evil spirits.

Tickets cost 50,000 IDR. There are instructions at the entrance that must be followed if you want to participate in the purification rituals. Staff are available to help if you need it. Because this is a holy place, you'll need to cover your legs and shoulders—and if you're going in the water, you'll need to rent a special sarong.
Being able to participate in the water ritual with locals and tourists alike is a really special experience. I truly felt welcomed by the locals and shared a connection to everyone around me at that moment. In the Balinese Hindu religion, they believe that the holy water from the fountains can ward off evil spirits and bring prosperity.
